Augusto Ferrando was truly a television animal, a talent spotter and a successful television presenter. Photo GEC Historical Archive Augusto Ferrando Chirichigno was born in Lima on January 15, 1919. Equestrian announcer, businessperson, talent spotter and television presenter, Ferrando would be 103 years old today. To speak of him is to refer to 'Springboard to Fame', a program that triumphed for 30 uninterrupted years, a resounding success of the time.

Augusto began his career as an announcer at a very young age, when he was still 14 years old, thanks to his great love of horse riding; He grew up in Chile, between Santiago and Viña del Mar, the two cities that had a racecourse; he also had a successful stint on the radio.

He would later become well known as a party entertainer, commercial announcer and race announcer. Not calm with that, he would create characters like “Doña Huaraca”, “El padre Nicerato”, “Pelito” and “El Chino José”; And so, between careers, “La Peña Ferrando” would be born, a musical comedy magazine, of which he was the owner and that housed new talents; and which is later taken to the stage, debuting at the City Hall cinema in 1963.

Then the journalist Gúido Monteverde would look for him to animate a program on channel 9 called 'La Escalera del Triunfo'; being a success and launching Augusto to fame, although he was already quite well known on the radio. It begins in 1967 and Panamericana hires him to lead a block called 'Trampoline to Fame', from the 'Omnibus Peru' program. However, before a resounding triumph in terms of audience, it quickly became a two-hour format, which was extended to three at the beginning of 1985.

It was a contest program for amateur singers and comedians in which Ferrando improvised and joked with the contestants and the other members of his cast of entertainers.
It was so well received that he ended up breaking the Guinness record, by completing 30 uninterrupted years of a non-news program. His space was a must for aspiring singers, impersonators or comedians.

Ferrando also stood out as a host of programs on Radio Central and participated in numerous campaigns in support of poor sectors. He was the discoverer of reality shows, since he carried out multiple actions and formats that are currently used. It is also worth mentioning his companions for so many years in the remembered 'Springboard to Fame', Violeta Ferreyros Tabbah, Ingerborg Zwinkel 'La Gringa Inga', Leonidas Carbajal Alvarado and Felipe Pomiano Mosquera 'Tribilin'. The musical direction was in charge of the famous Otto de Rojas.

A terminal cancer forced him to say goodbye to the screens in May 1996, three years later, on February 1, 1999, Augusto Ferrando, the manager of 'Springboard to Fame' died at the age of 80. Ferrando's body was bid farewell by thousands of people, in the midst of popular clamor and pain, that is, he left wrapped in the smell of crowds and three days of goodbyes; he came to the set where he had achieved his successes.
